James Vinson's father was presumably James or Benjamin Vinson, according to William Jarrell Vinson...though little information has been found. This James had 8 children. Lazarus (Lace) Vinson was the 4th child, born about 1824. Another child, James Jr. was born Christmas day while this James was away at war. This James fought in the War of 1812 in the Virginia Militia under Lt. Col. Huston & Lt. Col. Wooding. He served as a Private under Capt. William Parsons' Company of Infantry, 4th Reg't, Virginia Militia. Date of enlistment September 7, 1814. Paid $8.00 per month. When dischared, February 22, 1815, given $6.70 for travel home (520 miles, at 20 miles per day = 26 days. Rate of pay 25 cents per day). This James Vinson married Rhoda Sperry. His Last Will and Testament (5/7/1825) on file. According to the Marriage Bond of Lazarus Vinson and Vicy Ann Wiley, Lazarus father (this James) was born in South Carolina. |
