1900 Census of Lawrence County Kentucky says Elias was born in Kentucky. Born in Floyd (now Martin) County Kentucky Elias and Malenda first lived on Rockcastle in Kentucky. About 1842 Elias and Malenda moved from Lawrence County Kentucky (now Martin County) to what is now Williamson Ridge. (the Main Watershed of Wayne County West Virginia is Twelvepole River. It is now more commonly called Twelvepole Creek. This creek forks just south of Wayne. Two branches, known as right and left fork, flow near parallel from source to junction. The main divided is known locally by family names, thus; Lycan Ridge, Perry Ridge, Ferguson Ridge, Kelly's Ridge, and Williamson Ridge. Williamson Ridge is near Cabwaylingo Forest Reserve.) Elias was a surveyor and soon got a patent to a portion of the Ridge. His lines run along on either side of the divide far enough and close enough to enclose the smooth land and long enough to suffice his needs. You get to the old Williamson farmstead by a left turn off Route 41 a mile east of Wilsondale Post Office. A short distance up a hollow, a long, tiresome road ascends the mountain. Occassionally a jeep makes the trip up. James and Demy (Moore) Williamson were last known to live there. Elias son James had a daughter Malenda who married Melvin Williamson. Malenda and Melvin's son James is/was married to Demy Moore. (This James is a great-grandson of Elias). There is a cemetery located on the crest of the knoll north of the home. There are three generations of the family buried there.
Elias was a popular name in the Williamson family. There are/were many perversions of the name: Aley, Allie, Ali, Eli, Aly, Alie.
Some records list Elias as a farmer and United Baptist Preacher. He was the "Marrying Sam" for an ever widening area as shown by the marriage records.
Elias and Malenda Williamson are buried on Tick Ridge, between Cabwaylingo Forest Reserve and Jenny's Creek.
