The funeral was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Plymouth. Firemen from Cincinnati, Mansfield, Shelby, Cleveland, Columbus, and the United States Air Force filled the church to overflowing. Donnie's casket was carried to the Church and from there to the cemetary atop a fire engine. Donnie had served as a fire fighter in the Air Force, assigned in Europe, before becoming a fireman at the Greater Cincinnati Airport in Covington, Kentucky
